Kern begins with the material – a low table shaped from upcycled marble, with a tactile surface and hand-broken edges.

Kern is as much a sculpture as it is a table. Designed by Monica Förster, the low side table draws both the eye and the hand. Constructed from four solid slabs, it brings weight, presence and a sense of permanence beside a sofa or lounge chair. Made from Outt, a marble-based material created from quarry waste, Kern carries both the density and the history of the material it comes from. The surface is brushed rather than polished to emphasise the material's natural character, while edges are broken by hand, softening the otherwise strict geometry. No two pieces are identical.

Her work consistently balances sculptural clarity with technical and material innovation.
