Kern begins with the material – a table shaped from upcycled marble, where brushed surfaces and hand-broken edges invite both touch and use.

Kern is as much a sculpture as it is a table. Designed by Monica Förster, the high side table draws both the eye and the hand. Constructed from four solid slabs, it brings weight, presence and a sense of permanence beside a sofa, lounge chair or bed. Made from Outt, a marble-based material created from quarry waste, Kern carries both the density and the history of the material it comes from. The surface is brushed rather than polished to emphasise the material's natural character, while edges are broken by hand, softening the otherwise strict geometry. No two pieces are identical.

A Stockholm-based designer, with a distinct voice that remains recognizable across disciplines – from carpets, glass and cutlery to hand-carved bowls and furniture. Represented in the permanent collection of the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, and with exhibitions at MoMA in New York, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Her work consistently balances sculptural clarity with technical and material innovation.
