Kern begins with the material – a table shaped from upcycled marble, where hand-finished surfaces and solid volumes create a strong, central presence.
About
Kern is as much a sculpture as it is a table. Designed by Monica Förster, the coffee table draws both the eye and the hand. Constructed from four solid slabs, it brings weight, presence and a sense of permanence to the centre of a seating group. Made from Outt, a marble-based material created from quarry waste, Kern carries both the density and the history of the material it comes from. The surface is brushed rather than polished to emphasise the material's natural character, while edges are broken by hand, softening the otherwise strict geometry. No two pieces are identical.

The designer / Monica Förster
Monica Förster is a Stockholm-based designer whose work moves between furniture, glass, textiles and everyday objects. Whether designing cutlery or hand-carved bowls, she brings a curiosity for materials, production techniques and the possibilities of form.
Her approach combines sculptural thinking with a close understanding of how things are made, often finding new expressions through experimentation and collaboration. Her work is represented in the collection of Nationalmuseum in Stockholm and has been exhibited internationally.
