Luca Nichetto

Nichetto is an internationally acclaimed Italian designer whose work bridges Italian expressiveness and Scandinavian clarity. Born in Venice and educated at IUAV, he began his career working with Murano glass — an experience that has instilled a lasting respect for material, craftsmanship and industrial process.
In 2006, he founded Nichetto Studio in Venice, later expanding with a second studio in Stockholm, where he also lives and works. The Stockholm studio is central to his cross-cultural methodology, merging Italian narrative richness with Nordic functionality and social consciousness. Operating as a multidisciplinary practice, Nichetto Studio works across furniture, lighting, product design and architecture, often engaging in long-term collaborations and art direction. Dialogue and exchange are fundamental to the studio’s philosophy, shaping projects through shared expertise.

This synthesis is clearly expressed in Jord, the modular sofa Nichetto designed in 2017. Named after the Scandinavian word for “earth,” Jord reflects a sense of grounding and warmth. Generous, welcoming volumes are balanced by a precise architectural outline, creating a piece that feels both soft and structured. Its modular system offers flexibility, while the carefully controlled proportions ensure a calm, cohesive presence. Jord embodies Nichetto’s ability to combine emotional comfort with rational design thinking.

Throughout his career, Nichetto has collaborated with leading international brands and received numerous awards. Today, he is recognized as a key voice in contemporary European design, connecting cultures through material awareness, storytelling and human-centered innovation.

“For me, design is about building bridges — between cultures, between craftsmanship and industry, and ultimately between objects and the people who live with them.”
