Launched over 30 years ago at Milan’s Salone del Mobile, the BD1 Lounge Chair by Björn Dahlström has since become part of modern design history. Popularly known as the Comma, the lounge chair appears in the collections of both the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Röhsska Museet in Gothenburg. Rather than belonging to any specific era, the BD1 presents itself as a furniture piece that exists in a time of its own. This may well be due to its clarity. The basic idea of creating a lounge chair in the form of a typographic character was executed with great rigor and consistency. The design itself is strictly minimalist, yet delightfully naïve – almost comic-book-like.

The designer / Björn Dahlström
Björn Dahlström is a Swedish designer whose curiosity has taken him from furniture and bicycles to toys, rugs, drinking glasses and even crowbars. Moving between different scales and functions, he brings a distinctive sense of form and an interest in how objects are made and used.
His work has received numerous awards, including the Torsten and Wanja Söderberg Prize in 2001, and is represented in collections such as Nationalmuseum in Stockholm and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
