Barba Lounge Sofa
Barba unquestionably has sculptural qualities, like a soft monolith. It is a piece of furniture that makes a statement.
About
With its slightly clumsy cheerfulness and colourfully idiosyncratic form, the generous Barba Lounge Sofa lifts the mood in any setting. It draws the eye and raises a smile. You want to squeeze it and feel it – and of course, to sit in it. And when you do, it feels like getting a hug from a friend. The Barba Lounge Sofa is a tribute to the life-affirming, slightly anarchic French children’s book character Barbapapa. Anyone familiar with Barbapapa’s adventures will immediately recognise him in this furniture piece, designed by Andreas Engesvik and built by the skilled craftspeople at our factory.

Good design often begins with curiosity. How does something work? What could be improved? And what happens when you approach a familiar object from a different direction?
For Andreas Engesvik and Jannicke Grung, the designers behind Oslo-based studio Grung Engesvik, these questions are part of an ongoing conversation. Their work explores the relationship between materials, construction and everyday use, with an appreciation for the knowledge and craftsmanship involved in making things well. Different perspectives meet in a shared process, where ideas are questioned, developed and refined. Always with an interest in creating objects that people will enjoy using, caring for and keeping.
