DESIGN TALKS

Wednesday June 15th at 15:00

A pleasant conversation about sustainability, focusing on material and the choices we must make.

Participants:

Monica Förster (Award-winning designer & creative advisor), Annette Kjær (Head of Material LAB at the Royal Danish Academy – Architecture, Design, Conservation), Sarah Müllertz (Architect, SarahLou Studio & Head of Design, Kinraden)

How can we be innovative and challenge ourselves, the consumer, the industry in the material choices? Moving forward, will choice of material be a gamechanger for design? Are we willing to bear the cost of sustainable choices? As a customer, designer, and brand. Where does the responsibility lie? What requirements can we set as a designer, customer, and brand? And more…

Sustainability as a design philosophy. How do we create design pieces without a best-before-date?

Participants:

The award-winning designers Luca Nichetto, Todd Bracher & Andreas Engesvik

How can we ensure product longevity and transcendence over time, style and space? What are the key elements to a design that trump trends? Is there such a thing as a timeless design philosophy? If so, what characterizes it? How do you stay relevant as a designer?

Brilliant Minds

Luca Nichetto

With one foot in his homeland, Italy and the other firmly planted in Sweden, his adopted home, Luca Nichetto’s studio has gained a solid reputation for its wide ranging reference points and precise design execution. His stance on the design industry and its responsibilities to the wider world we live in are informed, honest and unique.

Monica Förster

With some of Sweden’s most iconic products bearing her name, Förster’s work is characterised by a pure sense of form. As a designer, she brings a hunger to explore new typologies and ways of fusing industrial design methods with traditional crafting techniques.

Todd Bracher Studio

The acclaimed native New Yorker Todd Bracher, has earned worldwide attention for his clean, architectural and refined vernacular. His design is not only aesthetically pleasing but also consider contemporary culture and human needs, which harmonizes well with the Fogia philosophy.

Andreas Engesvik

Norwegian designer, Andreas Engesvik is one of Fogia’s most prolific collaborators. At the helm of his eponymous studio since 2010, he’s the mind behind Fogia’s iconic Bollo, Tiki, Dini, Barba and Lyra. Influenced by the classic lines of Italian sports cars, his retro-futuristic forms have made him a legend in the Fogia universe.

Sarah Müllertz

Sarah has a master’s degree from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and is a former design studio owner and later Partner and Global Head of Design at the internationally renowned Henning Larsen Architects. Nowadays she’s fully focusing on the fine sustainable jewelry brand KINRADEN, founded in 2014. Sarah’s other central agenda is sustainability through recycled materials and circularity as a business model.

Annette Kjær

As Head of Material LAB at the Royal Danish Academy of Architecture, Design, Conservation, Annette has an extensive knowledge and specialization in materials. With the aim to promote an innovative and sustainable access to materials, she’s sparring, challenging, and advising students, designers and companies to learn more about and be inspired by different materials.
